Interview audio cleanup
Clean interviews recorded wherever the person was free: a café, an office, a street corner or a call.
Cleaned on your own device — the file is never uploaded.
The problem
What gets in the way
You rarely get to choose where an interview happens. A recorder on a café table picks up the coffee machine and the next table, and a phone on a desk picks up the office, which makes the tape tiring to listen back to and hard to quote.
- Café and restaurant clatter
- Office air conditioning and phones
- Street and traffic noise
- Hiss from a phone or handheld recorder
What you get
A clean voice, ready to use
- The background removed around both voices
- A file that is easier to listen back to and transcribe
- An even level, so the quieter person is easier to hear
- Audio or video back in its own format
How it works
Four steps, one clean file
Step 1: Pick your settings
Set Loudness to Podcast (−16 LUFS). Choose WAV if you will edit the interview into a piece.
Step 2: Drop the interview
Drop the audio from your recorder or phone (M4A, MP3, WAV and more) or the video of the interview.
Step 3: Let it clean
Your browser cleans the interview on your own computer and it is never uploaded. The first file takes a little longer while our speech AI loads.
Step 4: Compare and keep it
The clean interview downloads by itself when it is ready. Play the A/B preview to switch between original and cleaned at the same moment, or change a setting and choose Download again.
For this recording
Recommended settings
- Loudness
- Podcast (−16 LUFS)
- Output format
- Same as original
−16 LUFS lifts a quiet recording to a comfortable level, and the built-in voice clarity makes speech easier to follow on headphones.
Set them in the tool before you add the file: they are used for the automatic download, and you can change them afterwards and download again.
Good to know
- People talking at the next table are reduced, but a nearby voice can stay audible: it is speech too.
- The level of the whole file is set; it doesn’t balance a loud and a quiet speaker against each other.

FAQ
Common questions
Will it remove other people talking nearby?
Distant chatter is reduced along with the rest of the background. A clear voice close to the mic, even if it isn’t your interviewee, is kept, because it is speech.
Does cleaning help with transcription?
Less background noise usually makes speech easier to understand, for people and for transcription tools alike. Check a difficult passage in the A/B preview.
Can I clean a recorded phone or video call?
Yes, if you have the recording as an audio or video file. Problems from the connection itself, like dropouts, stay.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The cleaning runs inside your browser, on your own computer. Your audio and video never leave your device; our server only receives the file’s length and format to check your allowance.
Is it free?
A free account cleans 30 minutes a month, no card needed. The paid plans, Creator (9 hours), Pro (30 hours) and Studio (100 hours) a month, take files up to 3 hours and 4 GB each. See the pricing page for details.
